COREY PARKS- CASTLE
Voted in REVOLVER magazine, along side Rock and roll legends like Joan Jett and Lita ford as one of the hottest women in rock of all time, Corey Parks doesn't just know rock and roll couture, she LIVES it. Touring and opening for such acts as Marilyn Manson, Iron Maiden, and Queens of the Stone Age through out the nineties, and earning herself a Grammy nomination for Best Metal performance, She has earned her spot as one of the best female bass players to ever hit the stage. Her press includes write ups in Rolling Stone, a full page pic in SPIN, Details, Alternative press, MOJO, and the cover of Kerrang and Rock Pile.
And as we know fashion and music have always gone hand and hand, one influencing the other. Corey started off as a model in Los Angeles with the infamous It Models/Omars men who were known as the first agency to produce the "anti-model", long before it was heroin chic. She picked up a bass at 22 and made her way south to form the group Nashville Pussy, the only group to ever get acknowledged by the academy of recording artists with a Grammy nod, who's band name contained one of "seven deadlies". Always on the cutting edge, always pushing the boundaries of what was acceptable at the time. She toured the world non-stop and began sewing on the bus to kill time, and to alter mens clothes to fit her 6'3" frame. In 2000 she decided to leave the band and return to her native Los Angeles where she landed a job working the door at the famous les Deux Cafe where she became friends with fashion wunderkind, Rick Owens, and his muse and owner of the restaurant Michelle Lamey. She was the first face you saw when you walked in the door. She set the tone, Rick invited her to be one of faces of "who's wearing Rick Owens" in an editorial for French Vogue and couldn't be more pleased when she asked her good friend, and personal hero of Ricks, Lemmy Kilmister of the band Motorhead to join her for the photo. He had the pic blown up and framed where it hung on the wall in the main dining room of hottest spot in town.
She began sewing on slow nights ,making jackets for stylists and friends who liked her custom rock denim jackets, adorned with aged patched and hand stitching. It was there that she caught the eye of Maxfield owner, Tommy Purse, with her homespun threads. Purse gave her the big break, commissioning several pieces for his influential boutique, then bought her first sewing machine for leather, so she could keep up with the demand for her "one of a kind" custom gear. The jackets literally flew off the same racks that she shared along side Balenciaga and Rocha gowns. The Face featured her in "what's hot" and and she began dressing rock icons like Lenny Kravitz, Sheryl Crow, Steven Tyler, Cher, Bono, and made her mark when Karl Lagerfeld was quoted as saying, "this is a very strong designer, I feel strong in her jacket," and bought 10 of her pieces, actually wearing one out of the store.
She began doing costumes and clothes for tour for Rihanna, Marilyn Manson, Ciera, and Keri Hilson and designed Rihanna's jaw dropping, awe inspiring costume for the opening performance of the the VMA's for her number one hit, "Disturbia." She found she had a flare for the avant garde, "over the top", garments that were in the vein of her heroes like David Bowie. She got bit by the music bug once again and formed the group "Chelsea Girls", the first all star, all girl, super-cover group who immediately landed a residency at the ROXY on the sunset strip. Within one year the girls were were being flooded with people wanting to join them on stage...Billy Duffy(the cult), Macy Grey, Matt Sorum(Guns n' Roses), Carlos Cavaso(quiet riot), Dave Navarro, Steven and Warren from Ratt, and Carmen Electra became their unofficial maskot, introducing the band, singing and dancing at every show. The closed the show at the Macys passport event last year and MAC jumped on to sponser the girls that gave every boy a run for there money.
Six months ago, Corey began working on her first collection. After moving to Laurel Canyon, which was steeped in rich Musical Heritage and being back in music non-stop for a solid year, she found there was nothing out there to wear on stage. Nothing that made a statement, nothing that was exciting. She started to make stuff she would want to wear. Part, Stevie Nicks, part Lords of the new Church, Part Bowie, The look was much more polished and the lines were clean and strong. She wanted to continue to make clothes that made you feel strong, were the leather was soft, and the cuts were perfect. Things that were a "MUST HAVE" in anyone's wardrobe who in there heart of hearts wanted to be a rock star. The used Maxfield as her testing ground for the small collection that was still a work in progress. They re-ordered 3 times in one month, which was unprecedented. She knew she was on to something and that this was going to be huge. The line was dubbed STAND+DELIVER after Adam and the Ants. She put down the axe and picked up the sewing needle to dedicate herself 100% to making the line a success but returned to the stage for a quiet farewell in May by putting together a band for the Music cares benefit. Her band was as follows: Lemmy, Ace Frehley(KISS), Matt Sorum, Chad smith(red hot chilli peppers) Wayne Kramer(MC5), Allison Robertson(the Donnas), and SLASH on lead guitar. Always living up to her moto "Go big, or go home."
STAND+DELIVER
The Look:
The pants are extra long, the jackets look like they have been shrunk in the wash. The hides are top of the line, the softest leather and lamb skin, denim that's heavy 11 oz., but with a 4 way stretch so it fits like a glove and will wear forever. Denim is hand dyed and streaked and the leather is hand sprayed with mettalic golds and gun metal silver. If stevie nicks and the road warrior had a love child on the designing floor of Balmain this is what it woulkd look like. Chain fringe loin clothes, mettalic gold stretch lamb skin leggings. high shoulders and lapels that are hand studded with acid treated solid brass studs. You've never seen leather shrugs like the ones in this colection, like skin tight lamb skin full length gloves, with a zipper that runs up the back into princess sleeves atached with a belt across the shoulders. As if as if Princess Grace Kelly wore a shoulder holster with a 9 MM, this is what it would look like. Heavy zippers and leather fringe that hangs to the floor, OZZY circa 77' in the front row of a Chanel show. Studded spats that look like ankle boots over high heels. Tough as they come but can be worn with the most delicate antique lace. the feeling of that famous Helmut Newton photo of the girl on the bed wearing the english riding saddle or the women on the cover of a ROXY MUSIC album. Hand crafted and made in the USA, the price point undercuts the compition and the quality and fit blows them out of the water. This collection is going to bring the fashion world to it's knees, and in the vein of her true, "take no prisoners" rock and roll history, your sure to her the same words uttered at the Boutiques where S+D is sold, as was heard the ticket booths across the country where she played. "SOLD OUT."
